It has seventeen chalets, a main lodge, a pool and a dining room, and it arranges guided outings in the park.

Best for

Travellers who want to stay inside the park for rhino tracking on foot, rock art and World’s View; couples and families who prefer a small lodge with meals.

Not for guests who need to be in Bulawayo each day, or who want a large hotel with a spa.

Location

Park entry fees apply on some plans; check what your plan includes.

Rooms and style at Matobo Hills Lodge

Each of the seventeen chalets has a private veranda facing the granite hills, an en-suite bathroom, a tea and coffee station and daily housekeeping. The lodge’s own pages describe WiFi both in the chalets and in the main lodge, so confirm coverage.

Facilities at Matobo Hills Lodge

A main lodge, a pool, a dining room and conference facilities. Plans run from bed and breakfast to dinner, bed and breakfast, full board, a plan with two guided outings a day, and all-inclusive.

Outings include rhino tracking on foot, the rock art caves, Rhodes’ Grave at World’s View, a village visit and game drives.

Trade-offs

  • Extra fees. Park entry is added on some plans, and the rhino tracking conservation fee is charged separately.
  • Distance. Bulawayo is roughly an hour away by road.
  • WiFi detail. Confirm whether it reaches your chalet.

Getting there and getting around

Self-drive from Bulawayo is common; the lodge also quotes airport and city transfers. Ask for directions within the park.
